In 1995, I visited San Francisco for the first time and I immediately knew I had finally found a place where I fit in. Yes, the first tech wave allowed me to move here but after three years commuting to the Valley, I realized that the tech culture wasnt worth the six-figure salary and that I was miserable so I walked away from the industry I had grown to loathe. The city saved me; it helped me to become who I always wanted to be -- an independent artist working in the music industry. Its heartbreaking to watch everything that made this city so awesome being trampled and living in constant fear that I might be next to lose my flat or my studio and forced out after 17+ years.
