In 2008, former President Yaradua Aso Rock declared that if the militants in the Niger Delta come out and denounce violence, he will grant them amnesty. Immediately, the region stakeholders folded their sleeves and jumped into the creeks to convince the militants how serious and genuine Yaradua was, to the extent that Tony Anenih used himself as a guarantee by allowing himself to be held hostage in the creeks while the militant leaders went to accept the amnesty. Alaibe and Clark all walked around the creeks begging Tompolo and Ateke to accept. Meanwhile Pres.Yaradua never stepped his leg in the creeks. He made the statements in Aso Rock and he also received the militants in Aso Rock even without him knowing exactly how the militants were convinced. Now president Jonathan has given an Boko Haram amnesty if they denounce violence. I expected the northern leaders to fold their sleeves and jump into Sambisa Forest and plead with Sheikh Shekau. If possible the northern leaders offer themselves as hostages the way Tony Anenih and others did and allow Shekau himself to come out and dialogue. If you talk, they will say Jonathan should fight the sect alone afterall he is the chief security oficer of the country and C-in-C. When kidnappings was growing lease and bound in ANAMBRA state Gov.Peter Obi has to use his head to think of any possible way to asist the FG to combat crime in his state especially kidnaping. He even signed a law that any house that kidnapers use for their activities must be demolished and the land confiscated. Not that all this crime has been eradicated but atleast it has reduced. What action has North East governors done so far to help the military? Blackmailing the military. When kidnapping and rape was gettng out of hand in EDO, what action did oshiomhole took? Did he just fold his hands and insist that it was Pres.Jonathans work? Friends, no !!! Rather he looked for possible wayd to help within the law by signing into law a death penalty for kidnapers. He helped to an extent of even signing the death sentence of some fools. But what effort has Borno, Adamawa, Yobe, the northern elders and leaders taken so far to assist the military, rather than blackmailing the military and making threats of going to the World Court at the Hague??? These whole mess is like a football striker who has the opportunity to stop the opponent player from scoring but simply leaves him alone because he feels that it is the job of the defender to stop opponent from scoring and not the strikers job.
