In 2009 President Obama called nuclear terrorism one of the greatest threats to international security. The chance of terrorists carrying out an attack with nuclear material is slight, but if it happened, the consequences would be enormous. For this reason the US mounted an initiative to further enhance the security all nuclear material in the world within four years. With this in mind, the first Nuclear Security Summit (NSS) was organised in Washington, DC; a second summit followed in Seoul in 2012.
