In 2014 the United States will give Israel $3.1 billion in military aid. Israel is the single largest recipient of U.S. aid since World War II having received some $121 billion cumulatively (not adjusted for inflation). These funds are used to help Israel defend itself. These funds are also used to bombard Palestinian civilians. Meanwhile, here at home: -Our own military veterans are dying awaiting care in a VA system ripe with scandals, mismanagement and a lack of adequate resources -According to 2012 U.S. Census data, 15% of Americans, some 46.5 million people, live in poverty -The same congress that year after year appropriates these funds to Israel, refuses to extend long-term unemployment benefits to the over 3 million Americans out of work -Since 2008, 13 municipalities have filed for Chapter 9 bankruptcy, most notably Detroit, and the majority of U.S. States operate with significant fiscal deficits The list goes on and on and on. And so do the bombs, subsidized by the U.S. taxpayer, dropped by the Israeli soldier, but at the expense of the Palestinian civilian. motherjones/politics/2014/07/israel-gaza-united-states-assistance-unrwa
