In Barre Town, a small fraction of the town’s registered voters - TopicsExpress

In Barre Town, a small fraction of the town’s registered voters elected a new majority to their five-member Select Board and approved $5.9 million in municipal spending Tuesday. With Chairman Jay Perkins and board member Greg Donahue both opting not to run for re-election and Jeff Newton having recently resigned, voters elected three new members — one of them a write-in candidate — during the town’s annual elections. Rolland Tessier, a member of the town’s budget committee, easily won what turned into a three-way write-in race for the one year remaining on Newton’s three-year term. Tessier received 275 votes, well ahead of J.P. Isabelle, who received 141 votes, and Marc Bernier, who received 91. All three candidates spent all day at the polling place, and each received more than the 30 votes needed to secure the seat.
