In January, 13 young Cambodian professionals working in the media and communication sectors gathered in the capital Phnom Penh to find stories related to their country’s social and economic development. But instead of hitting the streets with notebooks, audio recorders and cameras, these reporters flipped open laptops and started digging in databases, online archives and other digital information sources. Their data stories are live today, on the data-driven Journalism (DDJ) training Website: ddjtraining.org/blog The training was part of a larger pilot project implemented by GIZ and DW Akademie on behalf of the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development. The project aims to improve access to information and freedom of expression through open data, data journalism, and open debate. Cambodia cooperation partners include Open Development Cambodia (ODC), វិទ្យុស្ត្រីអេហ្វអឹម ១០២ | Womens Radio FM102 (WMC), and Sithi Hub. Look out for an journalistic article about how open data, data journalism and open debate encourage offline participation from local grassroots communities in the Digital Development Debate next week.
