In June 1979, Thai troops round off more than 45000 Cambodian refugees along Thai border. They loaded them in more than one hundred buses and drove to the area opposite of Preah Vihear temple. Arriving there, Thai troops forced Cambodian refugees under gunpoint to walk into Cambodian territory . Thousand of them were killed and wounded in mine explosion as that area in the vicinity of the temple were full of mine planted during the civil war . Those who wanted to come back to Thai territory walk back raising the hand to show the gesture of surrender but they were killed by Thai troops. To most Thai people, they have never heard of this . Cambodian people who survived in the tragedy and now lived in USA wrote poem about such dehumanized treatment by Thai troops.
