In Leiden on 23th of October Ambassador Hans Sandee had a meeting with Professor Jan Michiel Otto, Director of the Van Vollenhoven Institute for Law, Governance and Development at Leiden University (VVI) and with Dr Suliman Ibrahim of the University of Benghazi – Center for Law and Society Studies (CLSS) and signed a document in order to give Dutch support to a project of collaboration with Libya in the legal field. The project will focus on the development of Libya’s post-Gaddafi legislation referring a.o. to well-established standards and practices in legislative assessment, including those concerning human rights. Hence, Libyan researchers will conduct case studies with support of VVI; workshops and conferences will be held bringing together Libyan, Dutch and international experts; consultancy visits will be paid to leading Dutch institutions in legislation enactment and assessment. The project also intends to contribute to the work of the Constitutional Drafting Assembly, which is working on a new constitution for Libya.
