In Nashville News, Keith Urban backed out of a gig at the last second Thursday night ... so he could get to Nicole Kidman ASAP after getting the news her father died. Keith was set to play a big ticket charity event at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, CA -- a gig he was doing as a favor for his friend and longtime Grammys producer Ken Ehrlich. Were told Keith was driving to the country club -- where members forked out $500 to $5,000 for a ticket -- when he found out his father-in-law had passed away. He immediately turned around to jump on a private jet to his and Nicoles home in Nashville. Were told the crowd at the benefit for the Ventura County Food Bank -- including Bruce Jenner and Wayne Gretzky -- was disappointed, but understood the situation. Meanwhile, Ehrlich pulled a rabbit out of his hat ... scoring Kenny Loggins to fill in at the last second. Despite the fact he didnt play Im Alright (the Caddyshack theme) for a room full of golfers ... everyone we talked to said Kenny was awesome. Garth Brooks took batting practice at the home of the Chicago White Sox, U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago, Friday prior to his two shows that night at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, IL, according to ESPN. Jake Owen found his greatest success with sun-and-sand anthems like Beachin and Barefoot Blue Jean Night, but the Florida native avoided singing about being on the water when he first started out. In fact, Jake tried to cover up his past as a beach baby with early hits like Eight Second Ride and Yee Haw. He tells Rolling Stone, I was putting out songs that would try to justify, I can sing country songs, I can do this. Then I got to the point that I realized I wasnt being true to me or what I loved. No one was putting pressure on Jake to deny his Florida roots, though. Lee Brice got a big surprise during his Friday night set opening for Luke Bryan at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Toward the end of the show, Lees pal Hoda Kotb of NBC Todays Kathie Lee and Hoda joined Lee on stage to present him with a platinum plaque for his recent hit, I Dont Dance. He then performed the song, which is up for Song of the Year at the 48th Annual CMA Awards in November. Florida Georgia Line has recorded a special version of their song Thats Whats Up for CBSs SEC football coverage this season. The original version of the song appears on FGLs upcoming album, Anything Goes, due out October 14. Florida Georgia Lines Anything Goes Tailgate 2014 is set for October 31 at the Jacksonville Shipyards in Florida. Footage from that performance will be broadcast the next day on CBSs coverage of the Florida versus Georgia game. FGls Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley are also taking part in a Fantasy Football league at CBSSports with lucky fans who won a spot in their league.
