In T&T’s democracy, elections are held and in so doing a government is chosen by the ppl to lead and govern for a period determined by its Leader to a maximum of five years. In other words, based on the promises, plans and proposals offered up, a government is chosen … and so a mandate is given. However, during this period a civil people have many ways to demonstrate its dissatisfaction, via protest, with-holding support .. and in the very pronounce case in T&T – the Gov’t loosing, not one, not two, not three …. But four (4) elections. Faced with a situation like this, let’s look at what are the possible avenues of a responsible gov’t burdened with such losses: 1) Listen to the people of the Nation who have resoundingly expressed their dissatisfaction, and so call a General Elections and hence seek out a ‘fresh mandate’ and / or 2) Ignore the people of the Nation and continue as if today is the same as yesterday Hmmmm, by no means a difficult decision to be had by a responsible gov’t with a conscience … sadly our esteemed gov’t has chosen to go the route of the later, rather than the former. A choice, I dear say that could bring about troubling times to a people who seems to be governed by a gov’t filled with self-interest. “Consequences” is the word that comes to mind at this time, for with every action, every choice comes consequences …. and my heart is weighted heavily as I consider what could be the future consequences that may come out of this CHOICE/s being made by our Prime Minister. Maybe, it is time that at least one (1) individual within our Prime Minister’s cabal, who is not blinded by self-interest, but can see with the clarity of sound & proper altruism …. that the CHOICE she has made is NOT in the interest of our people and by extension our beloved twin island Republic’s future interest…. if that ONE does exist, only time will tell.
