In a bid for freedom my mum convinced my dad to allow her to learn - TopicsExpress

In a bid for freedom my mum convinced my dad to allow her to learn how to drive, yes you did just read that right. With a few lessons under her belt she even bought a car. A red Hillman Imp. It was a death trap, my dad set foul of fixing it up, after a few weeks it was almost road worthy. Jim my eldest brother offered to give my mum some lessons; these took place at River Road Barking, a massive industrial area that was all hustle and bustle in the week but dead quiet at weekends, perfect. The lessons did more to show up the Imps short falls rather than my mums, in short it was a waste of time. Jim went to see the bloke who my mum had bought the car from, and returned with her £75 and we kept the car. Next up was a blue VW beetle, an uglier car I cant think of, mum loved it, and even my dad agreed it was all ok. The lessons were picked up and confidence grew, which was when it all went wrong, my dad sensed the change and positive results, I’ve no idea why the lessons then stopped. The ugly bug car was sold, and my mums driving ambition was over.
