In a little more than 24 hours we will say goodbye to 2014. In - TopicsExpress

In a little more than 24 hours we will say goodbye to 2014. In some peoples lives it was a great year...maybe their best. In other peoples lives it was awful..maybe their worst. 2014 was a mixed blessing and tragedy for my family. As hard as it is to celebrate a year that included my darkest and most painful event I know my brother Rick Davis would want me to. I want to share, reflect and celebrate the positive and victorious moments of my family. Before I celebrate them, I want to remember the greatest man I have ever known. Rick was an inspiraion to every person in our family and their success. Ricks loss was life altering to my entire family and 2014 will always be the year we lost our crown jewel. He was kind, loving, selfless & true. Ricks always shared his greatest moments with us all...because he wanted to share them. He will forever be missed on Earth but because of his faith in Jesus he will be waiting for us all in heaven. We all love you, Rick. 2014 brought some very significant milestones to my family that Rick was a big supporter of. Josh Davis was a senior at Reitz and reached his 100th varsity wrestling career win with a pin at the Harrison High School 10 Way. He also graduated with Honors and earned an academic and sports scholarship to a top 10 Division 2 wrestling school, Lake Erie College. He finished his high school career on the podium at Bankers Life Fieldhouse by placing 4th in the State. Rick was there for all 3 years that Josh wrestled as a state qualifier. 2014 saw Jacob Davis continued to excel where he left off the year before in the Army when he finished at the top of his class at Basic and AIT. Rick was extremely proud of Jacobs amazing ability and skill. Rick also bragged about Jacob continuing the tradition of Davis men who served our great country. Jacob came home and got a full time job at Berry Plastics and was promoted within the first 6 months to a very good job in a skilled trade. Jacob also married his high school sweetheart, Alexandria Davis. Together they had their beautiful son, my first Grandson, and are happily living in Evansville. Rick was looking forward to meeting Jameson and calling me, Grandpa. To quote Charles Dickens book, A Tale of Two Cities...It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. Rick, being the eternal optimist, would disagree...he woud tell me to leave off the second part. I would love to follow Ricks advice but because Rick meant so much to us all I cannot. Losing him was the worst of times for us all. He was my hero, my champion and my big brother. I also have to say that my love for Rick was equal to my love for Darlene Davis-Willett, Denise Davis Brucken & Ricks amazing wife, Julie Davis. I love you all and may God bless you and show you all love and mercy in the year 2015.
