In addition to transportation, recreation and exercise, found a fourth use for a bike- subsistence! At the suggestion of fishaholic coworker Edward Vey, I tried ice fishing at one of the local stocked lakes. A 10 minute fatbikeride away, 15 minutes of healthy chest press/lat pulls on the ice auger and it was fish on! 50 minutes later I had my limit and was packing up when Bill Wielechowski came over with his family to check out my bounty. Back home in less than 2 hours with a couple meals worth of fresh rainbow trout. Mr. Money Mustache would approve as the cost for the consumables (2 bait shrimp) was about 25 cents. No fuel/floatplane/fourwheeler/jetboat/airboat required. Next time Ill bring back 15 as the girls are coming with! Sledding, skating and skiing all to be had right there as well. I really love this town. Thank you Alaska Department of Fish and Game.
