In an effort to improve my lyric writing and overall writing in - TopicsExpress

In an effort to improve my lyric writing and overall writing in general, Ive decided to do an object writing exercise every day for 10 minutes utilizing as many of my senses as possible - taste, touch, sight, sound, smell, as well as kinesthetic senses. Day 1: Ice Cream Cone A cold drip touches my fingers. I smile and frown simultaneously, silently cursing the 101 degree heat as I bring the ice cream cone Im holding to my lips. The tip of my tongue catches the cool, minty drop of heaven as the hot summer rays beat down, burning against my pale skin, but I cant keep up. Soon I have a sticky, green mess trickling down the cone, my hand, even right on down to my elbow. At least its cold - a welcomed relief from the sweltering heat. But its short lived as I find myself burning up again, this time with embarrassment as I find my fingers in the mouth of my charming companion, his eyes wide open as if to mock my own reaction. I let out a loud squeal as I wrench my hand away, blushing profusely, but he just laughs and pulls my body closer, holding my sticky hand in his own. I close my eyes for a moment to try and regain my composure, but its not working. He smells like spicy cedar and exotic mandarin and I nearly lose my balance breathing in all he is when I feel a gentle tug on my arm. My eyes flutter open to catch him gazing up at me with his own as he sneaks a bite of my ice cream cone. I could have known. I huff and turn on my heel, starting up the trail to the river as I nibble at the waffle cone where hed left off; soggy and chewy, but sugary sweet. The sound of loose gravel gives way beneath our flip flops as we walk hand in sticky hand while the cicadas sing of the lazy summer days somewhere not too far off in the distance. Soon these days will be gone. Best enjoy them while they last.
