In an effort to reduce the starch content of horse feeds, several companies are changing the cereal grain from corn and/or oats to wheat. Wheat does, of course, contain the ANTI-nutrients and G-I inflammatory substances, gliadin, wheat germ agglutinin and over 70 different proteins we call glutin. Will we see the development of chronic diseases and degrading performance over time as a result? The answer is unknown now and time will tell, but evolution produced a grass eater (primarily C3), not a cereal grain eater...people did that!
