In baseball, the ultimate standard for a pitcher is not how fast - TopicsExpress

In baseball, the ultimate standard for a pitcher is not how fast he can throw the ball, how many different pitches he can throw for a strike, or even how many games he wins. The ultimate standard is preventing the other team from scoring; hence his earned run average is the best test of his worth. In politics, the ultimate standard for a leader (as I judge such leadership) is not how glibly he speaks, how many different promises he makes, or even how many elections he wins. The ultimate standard is preventing the further loss of the citizens liberties; hence his ability to thwart what power seekers, special interests, and busybodies seek to have the government do is the best test of his worth.
