In case any of my FB friends are wondering why I am posting the terrible things going on here in Turkey and just say the heck with it and return to Canada, here is why I choose to post to the outside world what is going on, and plan on staying here. This is my home now. I have a loving wife, a wonderful Turkish family, friends, in the 6+ years here, I have learned to love this country, the history, the culture, the cuisine, and weather. My love for the beautiful Turkish people is deep, and to see how this twisted government is dividing the nation, and skimming millions of dollars to themselves and friends is more then I am willing to accept. The Turkish people have lived through a long and hard birth as a nation, democracy is still in its infancy here. But the building blocks were laid by the founder of modern Turkish Kemal Mustafa Ataturk, who had a dream for a modern, westernised, secular nation based on democratic values, with women and men equal. The AKP are intent on tearing this down, and pushing there agenda for a religious state where the individual has no rights, and democracy happens but once every 5 years. I, like so much of the nation, especially the young and educated, arent willing to let this happen. I would be most appreciative if you would consider sharing some of the things I post reference Turkey now and again so the Canadian public will get a better idea on what is happening here in Turkey.
