In light of Robin Williams death from depression....its ironic that TODAY, something happened at my Clients senior portrait session.... There was a woman riding her bicycle through the park...she was 50-60, tan & fit, yet a bit disheveled and seemed extremely sad. When I started to shoot at an area that she was near, she approached us and started a conversation. She said it must be senior portrait time - we all smiled and she said I have 2 daughters and my last one just left... and then she PAUSED, closed her eyes....and she started to cry and then mumble and sort of block the view of where I was trying to shoot.....we were all quiet because we didnt exactly know how to handle this. She then looked at me and said, I know alot about photography.. and I said, okay.. I noticed that my clients were a bit taken aback, yet not sure how to respond and I, was more worried about protecting my clients and more specifically, my beautiful young client who was shooting her Senior portraits....who was only a foot away from this lady who was rambling on and near tears in every sentence she spoke. and then, my Senior reached out and hugged her....I was a bit leery as well as her mom, but she wasnt. This lady REALLY needed a hug and I wouldnt normally suggest to do that, Im really proud of her and glad that she did. I then sent this message to her mom - I wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed meeting your daughter, today. I needed to send this message, in light of the lady we met during her shoot, who was clearly depressed and sad. I was a bit uncomfortable and your daughter handled it in such a way, which made this lady feel more at peace. I believe that her reaching out and giving her a hug was exactly what she needed. (even though I think we were both uncomfortable) In light of the news of Robin Williams death from depression..I commend your lovely daughter for putting a smile on this ladys face and heart. Please, Tell her that.
