In light of all the recent TOT posts (seriously, double digits, and thats not counting people asking what time it was happening) I feel the need to tell a story of when i did trick or treat. I grew up in a nice subdivision that was mostly older folks. It had hills, and large lots, so I would get tired by the time I was done going up and down my own street, and even then nobody did decorations, and people having candy was hit or miss. My folks would take my out to my grandparents house in SF because they were city blocks and the neighborhood had more kids, so I had an opportunity to get more candy and show off my costume to more people. I am constantly amazed by the attitude of many people in BV who want so hard to have things that make them a destination neighborhood without any of the actual people. Nobody on the east side complains when people from BV come to Brady St. Bash, or Center Street Daze, or the North Ave festival. Come from another part of town to Chill on the Hill and they are blasted on various BV pages, and pointed at and spoken about in hushed tones. BV and the south side communities offer kids from all over, some from nicer neighborhoods, and some from poorer neighborhoods, a chance to experience a memorable halloween, and people here find fault in that. I dont remember anything about trick or treating in my own neighborhood, but I certainly remember going to Cudahy and SF dressed as Dracula. So instead of being selfish and demanding that only the locals get a piece of your candy, consider that some of these folks come to BV because their own neighborhoods arent as fun. Fortunately it looks like the community as a whole is much better than the couple of sticks in the mud that are complaining. Those people need to be more vocal in all aspects of BV and show the vocal minority that they are indeed such a marginal percentage of the greater area that sometimes they just need to keep their negative thoughts to themselves, and quit spoiling everybody elses fun.
