In reference to women in ministry: So a couple of people have quoted 1 Tim 2.12. I studied this verse and 1 Cor. 14.33-34 for my masters. 1 Tim 2.12 has absolutely zero to do with the structure of a church. You have to interpret Scripture with Scripture, and we can see in the New Covenant there are women deacons (Phoebe), women who are Pauls fellow workers (a phrase which means an equally ranked co-worker, not the tea girl), a woman who is a noteworthy apostle, women who prophesied - indeed Corinthians gives instructions on how women should prophesy. So with that as our foundation it is obvious to anyone that Paul does not forbid women speaking in church or teaching in church. So what is 1 Tim 2.12 referencing. The context makes it clear - its talking about the family. The context is Adam and Eve. In Greek there is no word for wife or husband, they are just referred to as the women and the man. Paul is saying - which he has said in Ephesians and Colossians - that the woman is not allowed to usurp the head of the marriage. The word used is a rare Greek word, only used here in the whole Bible, and doesnt even mean teach but to illegitimately seize authority. The example given is Adam and Eve - not a church leadership but a marriage. Paul is training Timothy how to train families in the church. He starts by saying the men should lift up holy hands because men should be initiating the prayer in the houses. Women should not be using prayer and devotions to manipulate the husband - I feel the Lord is saying this and that to get their own way. Its nothing at all to do with church leadership. Like I said in my original comment - there is no passage of Scripture properly understood and in its context excludes women from any form of Christian ministry. Thats the truth, and it doesnt take much effort to see it. It is absolutely time the church stopped restricting women and allow them to be everything God has designed them to be.
