In stock at the store. While we cannot guarantee that you will get the barn wood finish you are dreaming of, the previous post features a color recipe similar to others we have found. Generally most stain recipes call for using Walnut toned wood stain with a wash of white or gray paint thinned 4:1. All of the General Finishes walnut wood stains have the desired tone that do not have dominate red or yellow undertones. We have tried the vinegar/steel wool method on raw wood. It can work fine and then suddenly be very unpredictable. Some professional wood workers/builders will testify to the lack of color fastness and consistent results with vinegar/steel wool brew for staining. Our advice? Make sample boards on scrap pieces first. We plan to try Walnut & Whitewash soon to make a sample board soon so we will keep you posted!
