In the Bible, there are several words that are usually translated as “blessing” or “bless.” The Hebrew word most often translated “bless” is barak (בְּרָכָה (berakah) -- a blessing). What is it? If you were to ask the average person what is Blessing you would most likely get a blank stare and shrugged shoulders. Most tend to think of Blessings in materialistic terms. Most in Christian Churches certainly do. Prosperity theology (sometimes referred to as the prosperity gospel, including name it and claim it and blab it and grab it certainly think of it along the lines of God giving them Material things). However, we know that YHWH is bringing something far better than materialistic things. I know it is hard to understand for many but the expectation for YHWH to Bless You with all kinds of Material goods is a clear reversal of Gods plan. He will take care of all of YOUR needs if and only if you follow HIS Directions. In the Christian Church Blessing is being distorted but what can one say when they even deny the commandments of God, outright annulling and canceling them. Yeshua referred to them as least in the kingdom. Whoever then annuls one of the least of these commandments, and so teaches others, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:19 A key point here is doesnt the Scripture say something about us reigning in the millennial kingdom? Who are we to reign over? you ask? The answer is simple: We dont reign over, we reign with. If we endure, we shall also reign with Him; if we deny Him, He also will deny us; II Timothy 2:12 And Thou hast made them to be a kingdom and priests to our God; and they will reign upon the earth. Revelation 5:10 Blessed and holy is the one who has a part in the first resurrection; over these the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Yeshua and will reign with Him for a thousand years. Revelation 20:6 Blessings are plainly associated with happiness and welfare, just look at Abram and others. In Genesis 22:16-18, God again blesses Abram, and adds that blessing is due to his obedience to Gods commands NOT on what YOU Give to Get as many Churches teach and Preach. Gods original design in creation was for His creatures, including mankind, to experience prosperity, peace, and fulfillment, but that design was ruined. Statements of blessing are a wish for God to restore His favor on others or a declaration of His inherent goodness. The ultimate Blessing that God has given is the new life and forgiveness that comes through faith in His Son, Yeshua and following the instructions that He has laid out for us. The material blessings we enjoy from day to day are temporary and are not conditional, but the spiritual blessings available to us in Yeshua and encompasses time and eternity, as well as material and immaterial things. As the Psalmist said, “Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD his God” (Psalm 146:5).
