In the Curtis House thread I mentioned that its red brick exterior reminded me of the house my father grew up in at 5th and Topeka (434 Topeka Ave). Its one of the few grand mansions left and looks a little lonely sitting there by its self now. It was built in 1910 By Charles W. Horn (maybe the guy the street is named after?). In 1931 the Horns moved to Cali and sold it to my grandmothers father, WJ Bryden. He was the founder of the Victory Life Insurance company which was across from the capitol on 8th street. The big cement building with the pillars out front. Not the Masonic one, the one next to it. It was sold to lawyers in the mid 70s and has been used by them ever since, I guess... Id sure love a tour of it next time I visit. I havent been in it since about 1973 and then only once when they were cleaning it out after my great grandmother passed. Theres a little apartment over the garage too. Glad it was spared the wreckingball. probably helped it was made of brick. Curious any thought or info you all might have on the old homestead!
