In the Name of Allah, the All-Beneficent, the All-Merciful Assimilating the Splitter of Knowledge As we commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Abu Ja’far Muhammad al-Baqir (‘a), this nondescript would like to share some humble thoughts which perhaps would be beneficial for the readers. Many of us live the lives of those who constantly employ their imaginations and discard their intellects. For this very reason, we experience lives of misery and confusion. Our practical moves and thoughts are based on speculations and we are always confronted with spiritual upheavals. Those however who always tend to employ their intellects, on the other hand, are always happy despite the problems and vicissitudes of life. They search for “the causes” and “the outcomes” of events and derive lessons accordingly. They try to meticulously consider every speech and action they hear and see respectively, and analyze them with their intellect, searching for conviction instead of speculation. The tides of the worldly events cannot overcome them because they never jump into conclusions but always employ their intellect and seek conviction and the truth. Due to their eagerness of seeking the truth, they are not satisfied with the periphery and the overt dimension of everything. They always yearn to dive into the depths of the subtleties of everything. This equips them with sufficient knowledge that always serves as their protection and shield. Due to their appropriate intellectual moves you always find them smiling, selfless and deeply concerned. Although they may bear a great deal of grief due to the adversities of others, they resemble the quiet ocean, underneath which are whales of wisdom. Imam al-Baqir (‘a) is beyond what I have just spoken above. If we give the figure 1% to the above, He represents 100%. His life taught us the worth of knowledge in its different dimensions and levels. While we still have the ability to acquire knowledge, let us practically assimilate the life of Baqir al-‘Uloom (The Splitter of the Different Extensions of Knowledge). May Allah enable us understand the lives of the Ahl al-Bayt (a) and follow their noble footsteps, and may He gift us with their company in the realms beyond.
