In the birth of Jesus we see the myth of redemptive violence - TopicsExpress

In the birth of Jesus we see the myth of redemptive violence completely exposed. Because God’s plan for humanitarian intervention was not a mighty army or bombs from 30,000 feet, but took the form of a baby. A baby conceived out of wedlock. A baby born in a barn in a small town on the farthest edges of the Empire. A baby born to two people of no importance, who trusted in God completely, who staked their entire lives on his faithfulness, who dared to sing of joy in God’s great deeds even as they lived under brutal military occupation and corrupt religious legalism. As we prepare ourselves for the birth of the Christ child, I invite all of you to embrace the joy that lies at the heart of our calling as the people of God. Not a rejection of the world, not a denial of the realities of injustice – quite the opposite. I invite you to take joy in the struggle to live without fear, in the depth of community that forms among people who act out of trust in vulnerability, and in the embrace of strength made perfect in weakness. The joy of looking for the first time into the eyes of a baby. paddingtonuca.org.au/finding-joy-amidst-chaos-and-despair/
