In the district of Manikganj, during the rainy season I took this photograph. It was my first time watching any jute farmer processing jute like this. The golden days of jute in Bangladesh might just be the history but yet still some keep cultivating it. From the morning till evening I saw this farmer working continuously, standing in the middle of the water, processing the jute plants for fiber, and then when it’s done he was putting it on the pole. Usually the jute grows up from 8 to 14 feet tall and it takes two to three weeks to manually process it. Typically they cut the jute plants by plunging into the water, which is a very hard work, especially in rainy season, when it’s raining heavily, but for the craftsman of jute every stage of it is deeply bonded with their life, it’s what they do for living. lightandcomposition/photo-of-the-day-awad-june-09-the-craftsman-of-jute-by-shahnaz-parvin/
