In the face of the biggest storm in history, we Marines living in Da Nang Vietnam went ahead with our fifth annual Marine birthday party on China Beach. Well not exactly on the beach this year. Too much blowing sand and the place we normally hold our party was blown away by the typhoon that hit us three weeks ago. We held the party this year in my house. Since my house is in the center of what used to be the big R&R center on China Beach, I can still call it a China Beach party. We had nine vets (seven Marines) in attendance, good food, great cake, not so cold beer, and a lot of BS. Great time! The storm missed us this time. It hovered just off shore then made a radical right turn and headed north. Must have heard about the group of Marines that were waiting for it. Not a tree knocked over in Da Nang by this storm. The poor Philippines however lost many people to this angry storm.
