In the last week, a friend of Chads died from a brain tumor at the age of 36. His family - namely, his parents - have not spoken with him in 10 years and when told he had only a short time to live, they chose not to visit, call, or share their love for him. They explained they could not support his lifestyle choice because he was gay. They are missionaries whose calling is to share the Lords love to unbelievers. This has weighed so heavily on my heart & I feel convicted, as a Christian, to use it as an opportunity to remind myself and other Christians that God did not call us to hate. He called us to love our neighbor. Our gay neighbor. Our straight neighbor. Our hateful neigbor, our kind neighbor. Our Christian neighbor, our non-believing neighbor. Our desirable neighbor as well as our undesirable neighbor. Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these. Mark 12:31 Im so happy He called us to be like Christ - not like other Christians. No high horse will ever make us more like Christ. A deep love for others - all others - is an emulation of Christs love for us.
