In the late 1970s, I became engrossed in an over 600 page novel; "The Man by Irving Wallace." It was inarguably one of the best books I ever read; a powerful narrative about the trial and tribulations of an obscure black US Senator who later became US president at a time such likelihood was as insanely remove as to be impossible. I lived in Europe then. Today, in America, I am actually reliving that novel almost in its literal sense. Irving Wallace, one of the greatest novelist of all time, was ahead of his time when he wrote The Man, for the more things have changed in the intervening decades, the more they have remain the same. I recommend reading this massive novel and it would seem Irving Wallace was writing about current President Barack Obama.
