In the midst of Ebola, the kindest thing you can do for yourself - TopicsExpress

In the midst of Ebola, the kindest thing you can do for yourself is a tiny, ordinary kindness for someone else. Because you can’t touch anyone here, and when you are deprived of human touch, you can go a special kind of mad. Jina Moore gets at something so troubling and haunting about what life must be like in all the Ebola countries right now: touching has ceased. I cant imagine what that would be like. Handshakes, hugs, kisses - these were how I kept my feeling of human connection in the horror of Darfur or Congo. Get close. Kiss babies. Hug grandmothers. Hold hands with grieving fathers and brothers. Robbed of these, how do people cope? Helene Cooper has also written movingly about this. buzzfeed/jinamoore/how-im-coping-with-life-inside-the-ebola-bubble
