In the national conversation about race, especially after a well-publicized confrontation like the one in Ferguson this summer, different sides don’t need to agree. But they do have to accept that the other side is speaking sincerely and from the heart. And whites need to believe blacks when we say what we’ve been through. One of my children once very long ago (decades) said, I dont want to have to be someones (white persons) Black experience - and no one who is Black should have to...This article clearly explains the necessity though - and challenges white folks to be present in settings with Black folks to observe more life experiences from other than a white privileged perspective. Yet, to do that White folks must believe and be open to what is being seen and experienced through different lenses. Lets open our eyes, ears and hearts to see and feel what others experience in lifes realities (for the present). Lets listen and believe what we hear. Then, lets change these unacceptable realities.
