In the new Kaiser Oakland Hospital orthopedics waiting room today (for finger fracture), no staff members call out patient names. Instead the nursing asst. mysteriously walks up to me, looks in my face as if in a Stanley Kubrick movie, and says, Lisa Bernstein? I asked if they were using patient photos from their files. No, she says, the receptionist puts in notes during check-in about how patients look -- you know, for you, NY Yankees shirt, curly hair, sunglasses... Impressed.
