[In the original script to Love Jam, Mel, or The Ink-Blot Dude wouldve been in the intro and this is exactly what was gonna happen:] [After the Warner Bros. logo appears, this quote appears before the intro starts: Why do animated cartoonists use animals? For the same reason Aesop, La Fontaine, Kipling, Beatrix Potter, and Kenneth Grahame did: it is easier and more believable to humanize animals than it is to humanize humans. -Chuck Jones. It now focuses on someone sitting on a couch. He is an Ink-Blot Humanoid with dog-like features, wearing a Tune Squad cap, a red and green striped t-shirt, and blue pants. His name is The Ink-Blot Dude, but also Ted Pierce, but he will be known as Dude throughout the script. He recites the first lines to Romeo and Juliet.] The Ink-Blot Dude: 2 households, both alike in dignity, in fair Verona, where we lay our scene, from ancient grudge break to new mutiny, where civil blood makes civil hands unclean. From forth the fatal loins of these 2 foes, a pair of star-crossed lovers take their life, whose misadventured piteous overthrows doth with their death bury their parents’ strife. The fearful passage of their death-marked love and the continuance of their parents’ rage, which but their children’s end, naught could remove, is now the 2 hours traffic of our stage; the which you patient ears attend, what here shall miss, our toil shall strive to mend. [He looks at the audience.] You really think we were gonna do that? Get outta town. This story, it’s got to do with lovers, but it’s anything but a tragedy. I should know; I was there. [He walks to a drawing board and starts drawing on 2 separate sheets of paper, while speaking.] This film is about 2 stories. One consists of my life; the other consists of lovers who I’m proud to consider my friends, I play a role in both of them. These lovers, you’ll find out soon enough, but I’ll say, one’s an old grey hare, the other, is someone who doesn’t like being called doll. [He is finished, he takes a look at his work, and he is impressed.] Ah, beautiful. [He then leaves. The pictures consist of Bugs Bunny and Lola Bunny waving hello at each other, and then, their hands reach out of the separate pieces of paper, touching and holding together.]
