In todays gospel (Matt 14:13-21) Jesus goes off by himself to mourn the loss of his cousin/mentor, John the Baptist. But when the crowds find him, he allows the feeling of grief he was experiencing to be transformed into a feeling of compassion for the people who are hungry for his healing, his word, his nurturing. May we, as followers of Jesus, allow our feelings of grief, sadness, frustration, worry, joy, excitement, delight, passion be transformed into compassion for those who need our/Gods love.
