In today’s account of the Transfiguration, Matthew 17:1-9, Jesus - TopicsExpress

In today’s account of the Transfiguration, Matthew 17:1-9, Jesus gives this comforting command to His friends, “rise up and do not be afraid.” Peter, James and John had experienced a vision that literally took them off their feet. As we reflect on this reality we have the opportunity of quietly walking up the mountain of vision with Jesus. How open am I to the presence, the reality of God in my life? Am I too saturated with the “smog” of society that I neglect the ability to listen to God, to be open to the mystery, to respond to gift? Take some time today either in church before the Blessed Sacrament where Jesus is as truly present as He was on that mountain, or in another peaceful space and quietly reflect on what God is saying to you. Let the breath of God enter into your heart through the quietness of the moment. The command to Peter, James and John was not to share the vision “until”. Jesus did not want His mission preparation to be disrupted; He was building His Apostles into a foundation piece for the “Good News.” However, you and I must be open to sharing our experience of the Divine. We are to be witnesses to the glory of God as it has been experienced in our lives such as the first breath of a child, the last peaceful breath of a loved one. As you spend this day be ready to more deeply appreciate the mystery of God in you life. -- Msgr. John Barry
