In your opinion, which is more politically viable in the USA within the next 10 years? 1) A federally-funded basic income/citizens wage of approx. $500 per month for each US citizen age 18 to SS-eligibility age. 2) or several states implementing a ~$500 per month citizens wage for residents (age 18 to SS-eligibility age) of those states? Which states? === A federal basic income/ citizens wage could be funded by the elimination of: - law enforcement, legal expenses, and imprisonments for victimless crimes (such as illicit drug use) - social programs such as disability benefits, unemployment benefits, food stamps, refundable tax credits specifically for low-income people, and government jobs involved with means-testing - minimum wage and by - a permanent freeze in the U.S. DOD budget - and the implementation of a federal sales tax Increasing U.S. work visas for high-skilled foreigners to live and work here would enable the USA to spend less money on education, and would bolster the Social Security trust funds, and could partially fund a citizens wage. === I recommend a federal citizens wage for age 18 to SS-eligibility age. I dont want to promote a cradle-to-grave citizens wage. I dont want to encourage procreation or encourage the elderly to cling to life. Not now anyway. Our planet is overpopulated, considering the pathetic level of technology we have now, the increasing amount of overly-consumptive lifestyles, and dwindling natural resources (fossil fuels, fresh water, phosphorus, helium, rare earth metals, etc). Its currently a very inefficient use of natural resources for the elderly to be using healthcare services to maximize longevity. Maybe in 100 years technology will be advanced enough to make life extension for the elderly resource-efficient enough to justify it. Until then (fusion reactors, orbital solar panels, widespread asteroid mining, molecular nanotechnological recycling, productive nanosystems, etc.) the elderly need to be looking into hospice, suicide, voluntary euthanasia, cryonics, green burial, organ and tissue donation, and body donation NOT looking into life extension and dooming their descendants to a stark life in a barren wasteland of a planet! === A citizens wage is currently appealing to many libertarians, techno-progressives, and others. Within 10 years, many Republicans and Democrats will support it; in other words, it will have bipartisan support, a requisite for getting the law(s) passed in the US House of Representatives and US Senate. https://decorrespondent.nl/541/why-we-should-give-free-money-to-everyone/31639050894-e44e2c00 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basic_income ieet.org/index.php/IEET/more/jetcfptuBIG
