Indonesia AirAsia has confirmed that its Surabaya-Singapore route has been suspended amid reports that crashed flight QZ8501 was flying on an unauthorised schedule. Indonesia AirAsia chief executive officer Sunu Widyatmoko said Indonesia’s transport ministry is conducting an evaluation of the airline as part of investigations. “The government is now doing an evaluation process to investigate and in that regard, AirAsia will fully cooperate with the government,” he told a press conference at Bhayangkara Hospital, here Saturday. It was reported earlier that Indonesia’s transport ministry had suspended AirAsia’s Surabaya-Singapore route due to the airline violating the allowed operational hours. According to reports, the airline had violated a letter of authorisation issued by the Civil Aviation Director-General dated Oct 28, 2014, which stated that it was only allowed to ply the route on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. However, Indonesia AirAsia was found to have contravened the permit by using the route on Sunday, Dec 28, the day flight QZ8501 carrying 162 people went missing. Sunu refused to comment, when pressed further, stating that he would not make any statements until the result of the evaluation is out.
