Insights gained from purging myself of all material goods: I - TopicsExpress

Insights gained from purging myself of all material goods: I have this to say about tablecloths. Never throw them away. Pass them on. The older they are, the more memories they have absorbed as people passed the potatoes, spilled the iced tea, and fed the baby. I have one teacloth that my grandmother made by simply crocheting a little edge around all four sides of a bolt of flour sack cotton. If you dont know what flour sack cotton is, you need to talk to me. I had many dresses made from flour sacks when I was a child. Still have some of my old doll dresses, and Im passing those on to Ellie and Addie for their dolls before we leave town. I have another tablecloth that my grandmother bought in a second hand shop. It is cross stitched all over with shades of blue in a beautiful geometric design. I dont use that one anymore because it is threadbare and has some holes in it. For a while I did use it on top of another tablecloth, but now Ive stopped altogether. However, I dont think I can ever throw it away. It is my intention to make another one like it some day, but meanwhile, this is one of those things that I will store.
