#InspirationKE via James Thuku it is unfortunate that kenyans are yet to overcome the wage syndrome. it has become a major influence in our politics that the national philosophy is more often inundated with sharing of public jobs as a way of achieving equality amongst all kenyans. the theory that a certain class of people (tribe, women, men, children, youth, interest groups e.t.c) will only benefit if one of them is appointed to a top government job seems to have become a basis of our politics. it is a major rallying call by politicians. this thinking has informed our politics for the last 50 years and has killed creativity in leadership across the board. it is the same prism that the call for inclusive governance by CORD was interpreted and hence the quick rejoinder by Jubillee government that there will be no nusu- mkate government (coalition government). the Kenyan public should be keen to notice that the ruling elites sustain this theory for self sustenance and not for the good of the large public. one would only want to scrutinize the total budget allocation for the salaries of the so called top government jobs. real sharing of the national resources will be through institutionalized governance structures which do not discriminate between tribes, race, groups, gender e.t.c some of these structures are devolution and CDF. kenyans should be keen on the full implementation of devolution and demand more allocation of funds. they should also be concerned how the devolved funds are utilized to avoid being caught up in the wage syndrome where all money is taken up by wages at the county level. it is only through public projects meant to benefit many that there will be real equity in sharing of the national cake. wages only go to benefit an individual as opposed to many. leadership should be about initiating programmes that enhance the life of many not hiring few individual who will only privatize public resources through hefty salaries leaving nothing for the common. a dispensary constructed in luanda, kapsabet, lamu, chogoria, kiene or mandera is far much better than having a PS from any of these regions aforementioned.
