Integrity moments - Joshua’s Commencement Address By: Rick Boxx As graduation speeches are delivered across the country this month, there will be many different themes communicated. As one chapter ends in the lives of these young people and a new one begins, it’s a good time to reflect. The Israelites were given a visual commencement address of sorts when they crossed the Jordan and entered the Promised Land. Joshua instructed the people to erect twelve stones at the entrance to the Promised Land. In Joshua 4, Joshua explained, “In the future when your descendants ask their parents, ‘What do these stones mean? tell them, ‘Israel crossed the Jordan on dry ground.” The Israelites were given a visual reminder of God’s provision. As our young people begin their careers, consider some form of visual reminder of God’s past provision for them.
