...Intellectual Curiosity.... Accommodation WAHALA in KNUST who CAREs?.... When the 250 teachers were been transfered to Kumasi Technology College in 1951.....Kwame Nkrumah and the governor then did not say we have to provide accommodation for only this number...Indeed by February 28, 1959 Indece Hall was commisioned and there were a total of 294 room excluding flats by 1968...there were a total of abt 1700+ rooms in University of Science and Technology....whilst the student population was around 500.... They had more rooms to the extent that there were guest rooms... The situation changed. The guest rooms had to be converted into students rooms.By 1992 there was no One in a room accommodation in the then UST...Students were sleeping in 3 in a room....by 2000 the university policy was In out out In.... In 2013 the policy is Out Out Out Out....bt first come first SERVE for 1st years.... Where did we go wrong? What did we do wrong To deserve this?...Drs.Upon Drs. Profs. Upon Profs had com n gone non thought of laying a single block...the one who came closer was Prof Andam who started the hall 7 project....by around 2005 the govt for lack of funds had to give the project to GUSSS to complete it....making it a private hostel instead of the dream of a Traditional Hall..... Students in KNUST are faced with armed rubbery, some are being raped, butchered et al...All because they want to pursue a degree in KNUST to help our Nations Human Capital...SRC presidents come n go bt little or no effort is being done on the INTENSITY of the Situation....It seems no one hears the cry of we vulnerable students....we resort to homstel n uncompleted buildings as a sleeping place.... Alongside, we pay high hostel fees as compared to a normal singles room or self contain chamber in Kumasi...Some pay as high as GHC 1100 each for 4 in a room.... Majority of us students are from poor homes only GOD knows how our parents are able to conjure these huge sums....most of our UNIVERSITY authorities enjoyed freebies during their time as students in KNUST...and it seems NO ONE CARES.... ...to be continued..... (WATCH out....was the ACCOMMODATION petition worth IT) ***STUDENTS DESERVE BETTER*** By: Obeng Amankwah Kofi
