Interesting! The best primary educated country on earth is and has been for about 30 years... FINLAND. They have shorter school days and shorter school years with many week long vacations but no summer break, start later in the day, end later in the day, start kinder garden at age 7, have almost no homework, but they kick everyones tushy worldwide on all testing (even the Asians). Every year on every test! One thing, they only require students to be at school when thy have lessons. Even younger children (no study halls). They have little standardized testing, but expect every student to master the same material before they graduate. Students are allowed to progress at their own pace and are not promoted because of age. Typical lesson length is 75 minutes to 90 minutes even in primary school, so they spend less time in the hallways of the school during the day and more time learning. Kids are fairly computer literate in 2nd grade. All students must play sports, learn to program and use computers, and study the arts. So everyone is well rounded educationally regardless of talent. All schools are equally as good as another. No schools have minimum scores to get in, have larger budgets per student, or can be different than any other school in the country in any meaningful way. They want the education of every one in Finland to be exactly the same.
