Interesting companion to A Casual Vacancy, which I enjoyed though it was, in conventional terms, fairly devoid of plot development (because I thought it was an effective portrayal of how small people can be). This is nearly the opposite: a light, breezy, easy to read mystery with a rather likable protagonist. Even so, it felt unnecessarily long, so much so that I found myself impatient to get to the end, which I found reasonably effective but also slightly shrug-worthy.
