Interesting new book. And a good reminder that democracy is a political theory/construct and capitalism is an economic theory/construct. We forget that here in America, and conflate the two, as if challenging the failures of our economic system somehow make us undemocratic (and therefore anti-American). The truth is, capitalism has always sought its own ends: expansion and (often short-term) profit above all else, which is antithetical to a true democracy. The founding fathers understood this and Jefferson and others wrote extensively about keeping the banks and corporations in check. Something we have failed to do, in case you werent paying attention.
