Internationals view of Hebran(palestine)west Bank: I arrived here just over a week ago.... Feeling sheepish intimidated by checkpoints and the close proximity interaction with soldiers, i have lost count of how many times i have had to show my passport to the IOF. Nowhere in the West Bank is the Occupation of Palestine so blatant as it is here in Khalil. A quick look around the Souq (Market) would be enough for anyone to make up their mind Arab shops at the bottom and settler houses and military look out points at the top with only a thin wire mesh in between full of glass bottles all kinds of rubbish which the settlers have attempted to throw at the Palestinians. What makes me feel somewhat guilty is the fact that i can leave at any point, but the Palestinians have had to live and breathe this Occupational force for over 6 decades daily humiliation at checkpoints, lack of water when the Israeli government cuts off the water, restrictions on where and when they can pick their own olives on their own land, arrests, house raids, a large part of their market has been closed down in Shuhada Street which is only accessible to settlers, its now like a ghost town, And to top it all off they have to live side by side with aggressive often violent settlers. Even the main holiest Mosque Ibrahimi Mosque is now divided half for the Jewish settlers and the other half for Muslims. So much goes on here some things you dont hear about until a few days later. But the most disgusting thing i have witnessed is the IOF soldiers firing tear gas and Sound grenades at children on their way to school sometimes they even arrest children. A tactic the army uses to gain land or buildings off the Palestinians is to declare it a military zone and say it needs to remain accessible for the military for security purposes. Main highlight so far nearly getting run over by Anat Cohen at 7:30 am on a school run. Is there any wonder why Palestinians are tired and sick of this everlasting oppression here in Khalil ?
