Interviews have been with media in diverse areas of interest: literature, politics, culture, womens issues, religion. Questions vary on many diverse subjects. Here are a few frequently asked questions. I only was able to post pictures from a few interviews. Here are photos from a few of the interviews Ive had in Poland. Most asked questions: 1. How does a Jewish woman come to write a novel with so much empathy for the Palestinians?... Everything in this essay was of interest to the journalists: thealmondtreebook/2014/03/17/i-am-almond-tree-essay/ 2. How much of your novel is based on reality? I cant think of anything in the novel that isnt fictionalized reality. 3. Tell us about the conflict. This is a situation of colonialism. There is no conflict. There is the omnipresent power of the Israeli government aided by the US and those who resist it. 4. What has been the Jewish reaction to your novel? Eye opening because most Jews in the US dont know what Zionism meant to the Palestinians. For older Jewish people, they are too brainwashed to reach. And of course in every culture there are sociopaths. 5. Can a book change minds? Yes. In colonialism, the colonialist dehumanizes the colonized to show that they are somehow less than human, evil to justify oppressing them. The human mind responds more to human narratives than it does facts. Novels can show the humanity. 6. Is the conflict about Islam vs. Judaism? This is a conflict over land. 7. Many questions about my upbringing, my parents reaction to The Almond Tree and my Polish background. I knew that my great grandparents were born in Bialystok which I also thought was in Poland, but their obituaries said Russia. I found out that Poland was partitioned and wiped off the map for over 100 years. If anyone has any ideas of different answers or additional information I should add, please let me know. I have more interviews today.
