Intravenous (IV) Nutrient Therapy One of the cornerstones of treatment at Smith Ridge for seriously ill animals is a 3 to 4 day course of IV nutrient therapy. This treatment uses high dose IV vitamin C, combined with other IV vitamins. While some other veterinary practices around the country have begun using IV vitamin C therapy, professionals in the veterinary industry acknowledge that Smith Ridge has more experience with this treatment than anyone else and that we understand nuances of this treatment that no one else can. Smith Ridge uses IV Nutrient Therapy for a variety of illnesses. We may recommend it for certain cancers, but we will also use it for almost any condition that involves significant inflammation. In some cases we are attempting to literally kill cells (such as cancer). In other cases we are trying to “de-tox” the animal by flushing out accumulated toxins in the animals’s cells (such as severe allergies). Many animals, no matter how sick, exhibit renewed vigor, increased appetite and symptom relief after being on “three day IV” therapy.
