Intro to Covenant Creation - Tim and Jeff: Genesis Creation as Gods People: Covenant Creation employs a specific hermeneutic approach to Genesis creation that takes into consideration the symbolism of the elements used in the creation account. At first glance, the idea that Genesis creation is speaking about the formation of Gods people, heavens and earth, might seem strange. It is easy to literalize the imagery of the sea, the land, the sun, moon, and stars and assume the physical universe is the topic of conversation in Genesis ========== Doesnt scripture LITERALIZE the SEA. After all no one denies that there was a literal / physical flood of water right? (It doesnt matter what your view is - it is physical / literal water). ========== 2 Peter 3 5But they deliberately forget that long ago by Gods word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water and by water. 6By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. Genesis 1 6And God said, Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water. 10God called the dry ground land, and the gathered waters he called seas. And God saw that it was good. ========== And if scripture does make physical & literalizes the water / sea, isnt the rest literal / physical, since Tim and Jeff lump it all together in their statement above? Notice the sea is connected to these other Genesis subjects. You have heaven, earth and land below - connected to water / sea. ========== Genesis 1 6Then God said, “Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.” 7Thus God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament; and it was so. 8and God called the firmament Heaven. So the evening and the morning were the second day. 9Then God said, “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear”; and it was so. 10and God called the dry land Earth, and the gathering together of the waters He called Seas. And God saw that it was good. ========== It should also be pointed out that since the water / sea is literal, so are the animals. ========== Genesis 1 20Then God said, “Let the waters abound with an abundance of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the face of the firmament of the heavens.” 21So God created great sea creatures and every living thing that moves, with which the waters abounded, according to their kind, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. ========== I mean if Gods people are heavens and earth in Genesis 1 (according to Tim and Jeff above). Were they made out of the literal / physical water? ========== 2 Peter 3 5But they deliberately forget that long ago by Gods word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water and by water.6By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. ========== Also, it should be noted regarding the sun and the moon, the language certainly sounds literal / physical since they are for marking the seasons / days etc. Remember the firmament is connected to the literal water / sea in 2 Peter & Genesis 1. ========== Genesis 1 6Then God said, “Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.”...14Then God said, “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years; 15and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth”; and it was so. 16Then God made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. ========== It seems simple to me to see the problem with CC, but they dont seem to see it, or dont want to, maybe because of scientific presuppositions?
