Invasive Plant Presentation Wednesday, June 19th 7 pm Craftsbury Public Library Invasive plant species are all around us in Craftsbury! The Craftsbury Conservation Commission is currently undertaking the investigating of invasive plant species and offering educational material to help us better understand what we can do to address this invasion. This time of year invasive plant species are taking root throughout the landscape. Plants such as Japanese Knotweed, Gout Weed, European Buckthorn, and Purple Loosestrife, tend to spread and out compete with the native plants, creating a lack of plant diversity. Biodiversity in our natural communities is critical for a healthy ecosystem in which flora and fauna can thrive. Brian Colleran, an Invasive Species Biologist with the Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife, will give a short presentation on invasive species on Wednesday, June 19th at 7 pm at the Craftsbury Public Library. Colleran will provide examples of the local invasive species, focusing especially on Japanese Knotweed, the plant he is most familiar with. He will help us to identify these plants as well as give us strategies for eradication and management of invasives. Please join us and learn more about the steps you can take to ensure we protect our local biodiversity. This presentation is sponsored by the Craftsbury Conservation Commission.
