Investing in new cancer-screening tool! We wrote earlier this month about a walk-in patient, who came in for a second opinion due to pain inside the mouth. The patient had advanced oral cancer and, despite going to his doctor regularly, was completely unaware of it. After looking at oral cancer statistics (will post a compilation tomorrow) it was pretty clear that early diagnosis drastically increased survivability. Visual inspection by the dentist can, provided the dentist has been trained properly, identify oral cancer areas, yet there is technology available that can help the dentist identify oral cancer, pre-cancer and other abnormal lesions at an even earlier stage, thus further improving patients chances. That technology, according to 11 different studies done in a space of 9 years, is blue light fluorescence. We are proud to have acquired today a tool utilizing this technology!
